RESOLUTION ON June 23, 1996
WASHINGTON DC
The European Federation of Green Parties, having been apprised by the representatives of the DC Statehood party of the demand for democratic self-determination in Washington, D.C. confirms: 1. Its support for the democratic aspirations of all people including citizens of Washington D.C. in the United States of America; 2. The necessary linkage between the struggle for democracy, social justice, economic fairness and the health of the environment; 3. Our continuing vigilance with respect to the denial of full enfranchisement for all people and the impact such denial has on the ability of people to control and preserve their own environmental, social and economic resources; 4. Our concern that too often there is a direct relationship between race and disenfranchisement as appears in Washington, D.C., which is over 2/3 African-American; 5. Its principle of international solidarity as it applies to the struggle for local autonomy over the legislative, judicial and budgetary systems conducted by the citizens of Washington, D.C. Therefore, we call upon Greens, Green Parties, and Green office holders at the local, state and national levels, including Green Members of the European Parliament to support the statehood and autonomy movement in Washington, D.C. by initiating and promoting the passage of appropriate resolutions at all governmental and political levels. Tabled [i.e. presented for consideration] by Sam Jordan, Statehood Party, Washington, D.C.
